Words and Pictures: Exploring Abstract Drawing
This class meets once weekly for 90 minutes on Zoom.

Workshops Description
Words and Pictures follows up on the principles addressed in Drawing is Everything--Abstract Drawing. In this class we'll concentrate on how text is used in abstract drawing. The class includes a commitment to drawing everyday, brief in class exercises, discussion of abstract drawing works by various artists who include letters/text/asemic writing in their drawing practice, and sharing of student work in class. We’ll be working with the ingredients important to making good art as well as the design principles that help us determine just what good art is. Students will complete weekly drawing assignments and brief daily “morning pages” outside of class.

*Access to Abstract Drawing Resource Page on padlet.com includes links, videos, images, artist interviews, ideas and inspiration.
*Access to Abstract Drawing Materials Page includes a wide variety of drawing materials: papers, mark making materials, paints, inks, brushes, pens, etc.
*Access to Abstract Drawing class page for sharing artwork
*group discussion and individual feedback
*Zoom video recordings
Drawing classes are limited to twelve students.

Painting With Pigment Sticks: Layered Abstract Painting
This in person workshop meets for two days, Saturday and Sunday, 10am-3pm at The Pence Gallery in Davis, CA.
Painting with Pigment Sticks is a workshop for abstract painters, using several approaches to collage as a base for oil or acrylic painting as well as using abstract drawing under or over paint layers.
